Despite the immediate uncertainty, Budget 2022 must embrace the need for new approaches to how we as a society prioritise choices. People, well-being, public services and a widespread and fair recovery must come first. 

Budget Choices 2022, available to download from our website, contains detailed, fully-costed Budgetary packages across more than a dozen policy areas including health, housing, education, welfare, sustainability and more; it also contains a range of costed, revenue-raising proposals.

79. SJI Interview Series Ep45. 10 Point Plan to deliver Housing for All.

Social Justice Ireland  submitted our 10 Point Plan to deliver Housing for All, as part of the Government's anticipated new housing strategy. Our proposals move away from housing as a commodity towards housing as a home, addressing deficits in homelessness prevention and supports; necessary increases in social housing provision; affordable housing; strengthening the private rented sector; and ensuring that housing developments are providing for sustainable communities.

Employment Monitor is a briefing from Social Justice Ireland examining Ireland’s employment situation, including employment numbers, significant labour market trends, and other aspects of the macroeconomy. The purpose is to highlight selected trends and make recommendations with a focus on the policy goals of increasing employment, providing better working conditions, and creating a more just economic model and a fairer society.

World Information Society Day was on Monday, 17^th May. To mark this day, we focused on the Digital Divide in schools and had a chat with Eamonn Carroll, Research Assistant with the Education Team in the ESRI.  

75. SJI Seminar Series Ep19: Delivering a Basic Income Pilot

It is possible to implement a Basic Income for artists and art workers.  Social Justice Ireland's latest study shows that the Government could honour its commitment to pilot a Universal Basic Income by introducing a Basic Income for artists as proposed recently by the Arts and Culture Recovery Taskforce Report.  This initiative would have minimal costs to the Exchequer and could be implemented from 1^st January 2022.

In this episode, we hear from Seán Ward, Board Member of Social Justice Ireland and long-term advocate of Basic Income, on our proposals for a Basic Income Model.

74. SJI Ten Minute Lessons Ep14: Poverty Focus - Part 2

On the 26th April 2021, Social Justice Ireland published our annual Poverty Focus. This publication examines the nature and experience of poverty in Ireland and sets out a series of solutions that could be adopted by Government.
